Preparing for Your Dog’s Photoshoot

A little preparation can make all the difference to your photography session.

We’ve put together a few simple tips to help your dog feel comfortable, relaxed and ready for their photographs.

Grooming

Looking Their Best

If your dog regularly visits the groomer, consider booking an appointment a few days before the session.

Whether you prefer a freshly groomed appearance or their usual look, the most important thing is that they’re comfortable and looking like themselves.

Exercise

Keep Their Energy

A short walk before the session can help your dog settle into their surroundings and take care of any toilet breaks.

Try not to tire them out beforehand. A little energy is useful for capturing alert expressions, playful movement and natural action shots.

Toys

Bring Their Favourites

A favourite ball or toy can be useful for gaining your dog’s attention and encouraging natural expressions.

If there’s something they particularly love playing with, bring it along.

Collars & Leads

Comfortable and Camera-Ready

Bring a clean collar and lead that you’re happy to have included in the photographs.

Harnesses are absolutely fine too. We’ll work with whatever equipment keeps your dog comfortable and secure.

Treats

A Little Encouragement

Please bring some of your dog’s favourite treats.

Small treats work particularly well as rewards and can help maintain their attention throughout the session.

We don’t provide treats, so make sure you bring enough of something they’re familiar with.

Checklist

What to Bring

  • Collar and lead.
  • Harness, if required.
  • Favourite treats.
  • Favourite toy or ball.
  • Drinking water for you and your dog.
  • Poo bags.
  • Any additional items your dog may need.

Relax. Enjoy the Experience.

Your dog doesn’t need to sit perfectly still or follow every instruction.

If they’re more interested in exploring than posing, that’s absolutely fine.

We want the session to feel relaxed and enjoyable for your dog. We’ll guide things when we need a particular position or expression, but there’s no need to worry about getting everything perfect.

Some of the best photographs happen when dogs are simply being themselves.
